   AREA 13 Director...

ELECTIONS!!

Ballots from National office will be out soon. Please show you care about the representation of Area 13 by voting for a board member.

Howard Allen is termed out and we requeted info on the those running. The following is what we have recieved (alphabetical order).

Todd Butler

Hello. I'm Todd Butler and I'm running for the Area 13 Director position that Howard Allen has filled for the last several years.  Howard has reached his term limit and I hope you will consider me to help represent Norpac in Topeka. Who am I? I have been an SCCA member for a little over 12 years, for the last 5 years have been the Road Race Director for Oregon Region. I am an active SRF driver (Yellow #73 for all of those 12 years), I have owned and raced a Club Ford Lola, and I've raced Spec Miata as well. I think my time as Oregon RRD has given me a very good handle on what it takes to put on road racing events, build a good relationship with Club Racing in Topeka, and my time on the Oregon BoD has given me insight into Solo and Rally venues of our club.

What do I want to do in Topeka? Lots, but let's be practical. I think the Club needs to be fiscally responsible, ideally we would move away from relying on member dues to make ends meet or 1 race a year (the Runoffs).  We need to encourage, enhance and retain our worker base. We need to consolidate classes and cars, not continue to proliferate more classes.  I think SCCA needs to be more flexible to attract new participants and to compete with groups like NASA and ICSCC, frankly we have too much overhead putting on comparable events. We have a very diverse club, regional program oriented in some areas of the country and national oriented in others, we have jumbo regions and small regions and maybe we need to look at overall programs and figure out better approaches than one-size-fits-all.  I also want to continue Howardʼs personal crusade of providing transparency in National BoD dealings and reporting from the front lines so SCCA club members can make intelligent comments and decisions based on facts.

I know, one new person walking in the door doesn't change much, at least not immediately, it takes time, but I'm willing to invest time and energy and work it out.

John Forespring:

John Forespring has been involved in SCCA since 1984.  He has worked in all venues (Race, Solo, Rally (all levels) and Time Trials) including the Tire Rack Street Survival program. He has been the Regional Executive from 2001-2006 and is currently the Assistant RE of NWR.  Along with having been a Rally Driver he has held or currently holds the following licenses in SCCA:  Division Sound Control and Chief, RoadRally Safety Steward, Solo/Rally Registrar, Pro/ClubRally Scrutineer and a Divisional RallyCross Safety Steward.

Among other awards over the years, In 1998 John was awarded the prestigious Joe Henderson Award. (This trophy was given by the family of Joe Henderson, charter member of the Region and active in SCCA for over 30 years until his death in 1982.  It is to be given to a member of the Region for long and meritorious service to SCCA National, Divisional, and Regional Organizations in a leadership role.)  This award started from 1983 and has been awarded only 8 times.

He has been in business since 1962 and the insurance business since 1968 which gives him a strong background to help conduct SCCA business decisions.

John feels that SCCA needs people with strong business backgrounds and that  this business background aids in some decisions that SCCA BoD members need to make.  Having been involved on the Region Board of Directors he knows the ins and outs and problems and pluses of all the venues.

John would be an asset to the SCCA BoD and would listen to concerns of the division and communicate with all regions in Area 13.  With the strong Solo base in the Northwest and the other Area 13 regions. He would be in communication with people like Karen Babb to help make sure the needs are met. From his time in SCCA and working with the different venues John knows many people in and out of AREA 13.
